• CASH BOND: This type of bond is used when the total amount of the bond is due and this to be paid in two forms: cash or cashier’s check with the courts. This is basically a way for the courts to ensure that the defendant will appear in court and if for some reason the defendant does not appear at their given court date all money that was put up in advance will be forfeited. Also, when the case does go to trial and the defendant is found not guilty, the money may be returned if a judge orders it.

• SURETY BOND: This type of bond is used when the defendant or their family members goes to a bail bondsman and this is where the bail bondman’s guarantees that the defendant will appear in court at the given date and time ordered by the judge. The local police or sheriff’s office may have a contract with the bail bondsman that the defendant has chosen. There is also a fee of 10% to receive this type of bond. In some cases, there may be a situation where the family members or the defendant will have to put up some form of collateral such things as a car, home, or even some land in some cases. Also, it is very important that the families or the defendant know that once the case is heard in the court system and the defendant complies with everything that is in the bond that all the collateral is returned.
