Bernalillo County Bail Bonds

If you are searching for Bernalillo County bail bond agencies then you are at the right spot. This article aims to provide you information you would require in order to select the best bail bond agency in Bernalillo County. There are a number of factors you need to consider before you work with a bail bonds agents.

What exactly is a bail bond?
When a person is arrested for a crime, he or she is presented in court for the trial. This trial can be of a day or can last for a year and even more. During this period, the defendant (the person who was arrested) applies for bail. Bail is the permission of the person to remain out of jail while the trial continues. The court decides on a bail amount. This bail amount needs to be deposited in the court against the bail of the person. Now, in most of the cases, the defendant is unable to pay the bail amount all by himself. This is where the concept of bail bond agents comes in. Bail bond agents are simply people who pay the bail amount on behalf of the defendant. The defendant needs to pay 10% of the bail amount to the agent. The bonds deposited in the court are against the agent’s name. When the trial is over, the bail amount is returned. Then 10% of the total amount that the defendant paid is now the profit of the bail bond agent.

Also, there needs to be a third person present who will take up the responsibility of the defendant’s presence in the court whenever required. This person is known as the indemnitor. Your family or your close friend can be the indemnitor if he or she is paying 10% of the bail amount. Remember, the indemnitor will always be the person who is arranging for the bail bonds. Also, this person needs to provide collateral to the bail bond agents. In case, if the defendant elopes and the bail amount is occupied by the court, this collateral will be used by the bail bond agent to recover his losses.

The indemnitor is only responsible for the financial aspect. He won’t be arrested if the defendant is not present in the court on the hearings.

What information does the bail bond agent need?
When you get in touch with a bail bondsman he will require the following information:
- The name, date of birth and place of birth of the defendant
- Date of arrest
- The type of crime he will charged with
- The jail name he is in or the state in which the person was arrested
- The bail amount set by the court
- Your credit card information

Once all this information is presented to the bail bondsman, he will then arrange the payment and get the bonds. You, the indemnitor, need to sign a contract with the bail bondsman taking the responsibility of the defendant. Without all this, the bondsman won’t be able to help you out.
