What is a bail bonds agency?
A bail bonds agency is an agency that is legally licensed and secured by a district to act as a power of attorney and post a blanket bond against a surety for an individual who has been placed into a court’s custody and given the opportunity for bail while awaiting trial. In a way they are an insurance policy for a defendant. It is their reputation, versus that of the defendant, which allows an individual to leave the custody of the jail.

How does the bail bonds process work?
A Pontiac bail bondsman requires that a defendant (or his or her family) post 10 to 15% of the bail amount in either cash or collateral and agrees to the stipulations of their agency. If, however, the individual skips bail then the bond collateral reverts to the Pontiac bail bonds agency, a bounty hunter is hired and all associated costs with returning the individual to jail are now the onus of the defendant.
