If the bail bond is not forfeited, and the conditions of the bond are fulfilled, the assets are returned to the co-signor of the bail bond immediately.

Collateral is really just a form of insurance. Most people don’t have enough money to cover the full amount of the bail bond from their bank account, so they have to use collateral. Most of the time, nothing can go wrong, but there are inevitable problems when the bond is forfeited. Some agencies may allow you to give reduced collateral if they trust you, but this is unlikely, so be prepared to cover the full amount of the bail bond with an asset, or multiple assets.
